Alternative fashion
Since you have found this article, we assume that the concept of alternative fashion is familiar to you. But have you ever wondered what alternative fashion actually is?
Alternative fashion should not be reduced to the definition of a fashion trend, because it has a much broader meaning. It includes not only alternative styles of clothing , but also subcultures , each of which is distinguished by its individual aesthetic or approach to life.
Express yourself! There are no barriers or rigid frameworks in alternative fashion. Unlike fast fashion, it focuses on individualism and creativity, and gives you the opportunity to show the world your own aesthetic.
Alternative fashion allows for freedom in expressing one's self and preferences. There is no division between beauty and ugliness. Each of us is beautiful because we are ourselves, regardless of nationality, skin color, or religious beliefs.
There is no official definition of alternative fashion . The Polish dictionary reduces the meaning of the phrase "alternative" to being different, opposing what is traditional and officially recognized. "Fashion" itself means the way of dressing, combing one's hair or applying makeup.
Fairycore, tumblr grunge, goth, pastel goth … Alternative fashion is developing rapidly, and individual styles and subcultures are constantly changing and evolving. Today we want to introduce and briefly describe a few of the selected subcultures and alternative styles:
Grunge style in alternative fashion

The roots of grunge date back to the 1980s, when bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains dominated the music scene. At the time, the term grunge referred to a subgenre of alternative rock and was not associated with a style of clothing.
Grunge artists were characterized by a rather loose, casual style, both in everyday life and on stage. Second-hand stores were very popular, allowing for the purchase of comfortable and practical wardrobe items at a favorable price.
Only over time did the term grunge take on a new meaning and begin to be identified not only with an alternative subculture, i.e. a broadly understood lifestyle, but also with an alternative way of dressing.
Characteristic elements of the grunge style include: loose printed T-shirts, flannel shirts, torn pants, large, chunky shoes, and oversized sweaters.

Goth style in alternative fashion
Goth as an alternative clothing style is an integral part of the gothic subculture, which originates from the 1970s and is closely linked to post-punk, a popular music genre at the time.
Post-punk music laid the foundations for the development of the gothic subculture and remains its extremely important element to this day.
Goth initially drew heavily on Victorian fashion. Modern influences have seen the style evolve, with variations including pastel goth and mall goth.
Gothic make-up consists of a light, almost pale complexion and strongly emphasized eyes, sometimes also black or red lipstick on the lips. Goths often dye their hair black, and in everyday life they backcomb it and carefully arrange it.
The goth style outfit is based on: vests, long dresses and skirts , heavy boots and jewelry in the form of large chokers. It often includes leather elements and personalized DIY decorations such as safety pins, studs or handmade abrasions. Click here to find our clothes that match this style.
Witch style in alternative fashion
Witch , also called witchcore, is a subculture that was born out of love for nature and Mother Earth. Its members prefer to spend their free time outdoors, which allows them to commune with nature. They often collect plants, minerals or herbs, believe in the power of stones and are interested in tarot.
Witchcore is characterized by dark, not necessarily black, colors combined with a delicate and feminine style of clothing that refers to magical characters.
What sets withcore apart from most alternative styles are the shoes. In this case, they don't have to be big and bulky, and even, if possible, they're omitted.
The witch style is largely based on vintage fashion. You can see ornate shirts, long skirts and dresses, which often come from second-hand stores.
E-girl style in alternative fashion
E-girl is the youngest alternative style among those mentioned in the article. It was particularly popular in 2019. It was started by young girls spending their free time on the internet or playing games.
The characteristic elements of e-girls' make-up are black lines on the eyelids, a strongly contoured nose, a lot of rouge on the cheeks and hearts drawn or glued on around the eyes.
E-girls wear dark clothing that is meant to make them stand out from the crowd. Their common wardrobe items include: tennis skirts , safety shorts , leather belts, chain pants, knee socks, fishnet stockings, chokers, and platform shoes.
If e-girl is your style, here are all our clothes and accessories that fit into this style!
Fairycore style in alternative fashion
The fairycore style is inspired by fairies and magical elves. It is delicate, subtle and girlish. Earthy shades such as greens, browns and beiges dominate it. Fairycore spend their free time communing with Mother Nature.
What sets fairycore apart from other alternative styles are the applied elven ears and wings.
Fairycore attire is rich in lace and thin, airy, sometimes lingerie-like materials. You can see long dresses, corsets, fingerless gloves, knee socks, and leg warmers.

Dark academia style in alternative fashion
The dark academia style is based on an elegant aesthetic preserved in dark colors. In this alternative style, the dominant shades are blacks, grays, browns, beiges, burgundy, blues and greens.
An important element of the dark academia style is high-quality fabrics, such as cashmere or merino wool, which are often purchased in second-hand stores.
Dark academia attire often includes vests, ties, shirts, and puff-sleeved blouses worn under a plaid blazer, paired with pleated skirts or suit trousers.
The dark academia style is dominated by massive shoes such as Dr. Martens or Mary Janes and delicate and high-quality accessories such as a leather belt or a single necklace.

Pastel style in alternative fashion
Many alternative styles also exist in pastel versions. On the street and on the internet we can observe, for example, pastel goth , pastel academia , or pastel punk .
Pastel goth is inspired by Japanese fashion, or more precisely, kawaii. It is dominated by light shades of pink, purple, or blue, which are combined with heavy elements, such as gothic skirts or grunge ripped pants .
Pastel goth T -shirts and sweatshirts often have dark symbols printed on them in cute forms, such as skeletons or bats. They often enhance their outfits with cute elements such as necklaces, hair clips or glasses in fancy shapes.
Pastel punk, like pasel goth, combines bright colors with black. In this case, a common accent is clumsy, massive accessories in the form of heavy boots, studs or chains.
Pastel acadamia is a girly and delicate style inspired by school uniforms. Unlike its predecessors, pastel shades are not combined with dark, heavy accessories.
Pastel acadamia wear outfits consisting of shirts, jackets, pleated skirts, bows and ties, all in light, delicate colors.

SKYDANCE Brand History
SKYDANCE has been created with you over the years. Every story has a beginning. Ours began very innocently… with handmade chokers.
The problem in alternative fashion is the low availability of products on the Polish market. Ten years ago, the situation was even more complicated. Gabriela, a teenager at the time, who was passionate about alternative fashion, decided to literally take matters into her own hands.
This is how our first handmade jewelry was created. These were chokers with specially imported pendants in the tumblr grunge style, or crystals from mineral exchanges .
The brand was then called Catpaw, which was then changed to Moon Cult, and eventually became SKYDANCE .
As we have already mentioned, SKYDANCE is being created thanks to you! We owe the look of our logo to one of our community members, Magdalena, whom we greet warmly from here.
The next step was to create hand-sewn tumblr grunge tennis skirts and unique grunge t-shirts , the prints of which were designed by tattoo artist Magdalena.
We were in quite a shock when the assortment sold out within an hour. We took it as a signal to act and dynamically develop our business.
Initially, we sewed clothes in the comfort of our own homes to the customer's measurements, later, when the number of orders began to overwhelm us, we used the help of a local sewing workshop, with which we cooperate to this day.
Shortly after, we decided to go a step further and started working with another artist, Nela. This is how new projects began to emerge, which were a response to your needs.
For four years, our main designer has been Agnieszka, who specializes in creating tattoos in one of Warsaw studios.
Currently, our range consists not only of alternative jewellery , printed T-shirts or tennis skirts , but also many other wardrobe items that are designed to meet the expectations of even the most demanding customers.
